Securing the Northern Star project
Creative Logic Interiors collaborated with builder CDI Group on Northern Star’s office refurbishment. For the flooring, they specified modern terrazzo for its durability and timeless aesthetic. They were keen on getting the type of terrazzo overlay that Pangaea Floors offered. After consulting with Pangaea, they engaged us as the recommended installer.
Having previously worked with Creative Logic and CDI Group, we were able to coordinate seamlessly with the broader project team to ensure a smooth delivery.
The project brief
They wanted a Pangaea Terrazzo floor that mimicked the look of Alabaster, with aggregates made of 70% 14mm crushed Stonefield and 30% 10mm Koonunga Hill Grey Marble. There were two floors or levels to render into terrazzo: 106 square metres on Level 3 and 262 square metres on Level 4.
Addressing issues
As with all projects, we did an initial site inspection. This was how we discovered there were issues with the site that would make installing terrazzo impossible if they remained unaddressed:
- Uneven Substrate: The removal of old flooring revealed post-tension concrete slabs with irregular surfaces.
- Residual Glue: A stubborn adhesive layer from the previous floor remained. This had to be completely removed.
To avoid disrupting the work of other construction teams or trades, we carried out the work in night shifts. We carefully planned each stage to meet the tight deadline.
Our approach
We completed the terrazzo installation in phases over two weeks. Our six-person team worked through these phases, across both levels:
- Preparation: We ground off all traces of the old glue from the previous flooring. Then we applied a self-levelling compound to create a smooth, even base. This step alone took four nights on Level 4 and two nights on Level 3.
- Terrazzo Installation: We applied the alabaster cement base and aggregates with precision, ensuring an even, consistent finish.
- Polishing: After curing, we polished the terrazzo mechanically, enhancing its appearance and durability.
From start to finish, the installation took us a total of 10 nights to complete for Level 4 and 6 nights for Level 3. The phased approach allowed us to meet the project’s requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
One benefit of Pangaea Terrazzo flooring is its quick usability—just six hours after installation, the unpolished layer is ready for foot traffic. This allowed other trades working on the Northern Star renovation to carry on with their tasks without risking contamination or interfering with our final polishing process.

The completed Pangaea Terrazzo floors exceeded expectations. The alabaster-inspired finish brought sophistication to Northern Star’s office spaces, perfectly aligning with the project’s design vision. The client and design team were highly satisfied with the results, noting the care and skill we placed in every detail.
